Weekend Warrior Fall Projects: Cleaning Out the Garage

Fall is the perfect time to Clean out your garage.  Being able to park your car in the garage and stay warm in the winter months, is a key reason to tackle this Weekend Warrior Fall Project now.

Declutter

First things first….  Take all items out of the garage and start to sort them of what you do and do not need.  (Don’t be afraid to part with things that you’ve had for a long time!  Getting rid of old things will only make room for the new items that you will actually use and not just collect dust in the garage.)  To help with the removal of items, we have an assorted dollies to help get the job done fast and not break your back.

It is best to create 3 piles: Trash, Charity, and Keep.  If you have a lot of items to remove, then you want to rent a dump trailer or utility trailer in order to dispose of all the items and take them to the landfill or take to your favorite charity.

Cleaning and Floor Maintenance

Start by sweeping the entire garage and brush out all the corners of the garage.  Rent a blower to remove all the small particles that the broom just couldn’t pick up.

Now, it is time to give your garage a good cleaning with a pressure washer.  Pressure washing the floor can help you see if there is any damage or crack that you may need to repair.  If your garage floor has become battered and bruised over the years, now is the perfect time to fix them.   Rental Stop has all the tools you will need to repair your concrete as well.  Check them out here.

Inspect and Paint Your Walls

Time to inspect all the walls of the garage and make sure there are no holes and cracks that need to be repaired. Once you repair the walls, it is time to put a fresh coat of paint.  Our airless paint sprayer can get the job done fast.

Time to Organize and Label

Finally, it is time to get everything in its place. Organizing your garage can save you plenty of time and money.  Yes, money…  you will be able to find all your items and not have to go buy what you already have in your garage.  It is always helpful to place all the cleaning supplies in one spot, tools in another. Time to invest in things like shelves, cabinets, hooks and bins to contain all your items.

Many garages can have odd shapes to them so if you need to make your own shelves or cabinets, Rental Stop has all the tools and saws to help get the job done.

Finally, it is always helpful to label all your bins and sections to help you find everything.  Some suggestions are Tools, Cleaning Supplies, Car, Holiday Decorations, etc.
