3 Steps for A Perfect Fall Planting

Did you build a backyard garden during COVID & are now wondering what you need to do for the upcoming Fall? Remember these 3 steps for a Perfect Fall Planting:
1. Prepping the Soil
Renting a tiller is the easiest way to turn the soil and provide nitrogen for a new garden. Tilling helps break up clumps in hard compacted soil, & it will also break up roots to kill some weeds. Prepackaged garden soil or organic compost can be tilled into your soil to add nutrients. If the soil is excessively damp or has high clay content, consider tilling in Screened Sand from our Rental Stop Landscape Materials Department.
Rental Stop’s 2 HP or 5 HP Front Tine Tiller is a perfect choice for the backyard garden. Need something a little smaller, rent our 35 cc Tiller with Kick Stand to till those smaller gardens.
Make sure you add some slow-release Fertilizer with our Fertilizer spreader!
2. New Mulch

3. Pick the Right Plants!
Rotating your crops is always best! Root, Fruit, Bean and Green is the typical order. Make sure you know your harvest time! Checking the days until harvest is crucial, so you can cook and eat your delicious crop with fully grown and full of delicious flavor when you know you will want to eat them.

Rental Stop has a variety of different tillers to choose from to help prepare your soil. Front Tine Tillers and how they work: 2HP Tiller and 5HP Tiller Front Tine Tillers are smaller and lighter than rear tine tillers. The wheels are not driven by the engine.
Rear Tine Tillers and how they work: 8 HP Rear Tine Tillers are the machines used by professionals and/or serious gardeners. They are heavier and often have one or more forward gears, plus reverse. The rear tine tillers have wheels that are driven by the engine.

6 Tips for Prepping your Lawn for Late Summer / Early Fall

6 steps for your lawn this late summer and early fall in Texas. Visit our Lawn and Garden category on the website for all your rental needs.
1. Mow
Continue to mow your lawn in Texas throughout the fall until we have dropped below 50 consistently. You need to maintain the 1- 3” cuts until the temperatures drop & then you can cut shorter for your final cuts of the fall. Mowing in the fall helps with your leaves to a minimum & produces a nutritious mulch for your lawn.
2. Weed
Mowing is the best for weed control, but sometimes weeds will sprout from time to time. It is best to Spot treat any of those pesky weeds with a Hand sprayer.
3. Water
No need to water your lawn daily! Water a couple times a week… remember your lawn needs a little time to dry between watering. A healthy lawn needs deep roots, so you need to make sure that you are watering enough to reach these deep roots.
4. Aerate
Aeration pulls soil plugs from your lawn & helps provide water, Oxygen & nutrients your lawn needs to reach the roots.
5. Fertilize
Make sure that you are using the right Ratios for your type of grass. Read the back of your fertilizer for more information on this. Sometimes less is more with fertilizers! 6. Reseed
Here in Texas, it is best to reseed in early/mid fall. Your seeds are going to more successful with the cooler damper weather.
